On Thursday we had Sleepover at School. When we were waiting for 9 o'clock to come we did some sports like running with a red helmet. When it was 9pm we got into our sleeping bags. Soon we were fast asleep. In the morning we slowly woke up. When everyone was awake we watched Scooby-doo. For breakfast I had rice bubbles and a piece of butter and vegemite toast. After breakfast we had a tiny play while people were arriving at school.
Our first activity was Socky and then Marshmallow Structures. After that we did drama, then raincoats. My favourite thing was the Marshmallow structures and sleeping. I slept next to Helana ans Corrina-Anne. I can't wait until the waterslide. When it was night we saw Mrs Hook's pyjamas. She had a big cup of coffee when it was breakfast time. But the funniest thing was when Mr van Beusekom put fake bugs on Mrs Hook's bed. Mrs Hook got a big fright when she got in to her bed.
For morning tea we had biscuits and fruit. For lunch we had sausage sizzle. I also liked the lolly wrapper competition. Alex won! I didn't get to have pizza sadly because I was at my dance show, but even better I got ice cream. Then we went home.

Sleepover at School! By Jooeun
On Thursday the year threes did a sleepover at school. I was the first one to come because we had to pick my brother up from Chinese class. I really liked Mrs Hook's pyjamas with the giraffe pictures on it. When we went to sleep it was very loud because there was a storm. The funniest thing was Mr van Beusekom put fake bugs in Mrs Hook's bed.
On Friday morning we watched TV. The movies were funny and boring. When we had breakfast I liked the rice bubbles. I had the last bit. After we had to clean our dishes. It was fun doing the dishes. After we had to clean our classroom because of our activities. From the activities I liked doing Socky because we played against each other. For lunch we had sausage sizzle. It was really yummy. When we were done we went back then went home. Mrs Hook said "Bye!" Then sent us home.

Cultural Day By Hunter
Today is cultural day. Cultural Day means that we celebrate every country. I am wearing a Kung Fu master outfit. Langkee is wearing a Tae Kwon Do uniform. Josiah is wearing a national uniform from China. He is wearing olden day buttons from China. I also have a fob watch, which is movies some people get hypnotised by this watch. My Grandma sewed my costume. The back and the front of my pants are the same so you can wear them both ways round. I have a blue and white t-shirt underneath my Kung-fu shirt. I also have quite a few pockets on my Kung-fu shirt. My pants are quite tight but when I wear it, it is not tight.

Today it is Cultural Day and at 11.30 we are doing a big parade. I am wearing a Korean National skirt and my brother is wearing his Tae Kwon Do uniform. I am bringing fried dumplings. I was born in New Zealand with my brother and my Mum and Dad were born in Korea. I am interested in the parade. At lunch time we are having a shared lunch because today is Cultural Day. My Mum is bringing the food because if it is hot it is yummy.

Today it was Cultural Day. I am wearing black for New Zealand. Julianne is wearing black for New Zealand and red for Malaysia. Corrina-Anne is wearing a lava-lava from Samoa and Charlie is wearing a cheetah outfit from South Africa. We all had to bring some food. Julianne brought spring rolls, Gizelle brought a delicious dessert with sweets inside them, I brought some lollies. Hunter brought yummy dumplings. It was awesome!
Cultural Day By Paige
Today we are going to have a parade to celebrate our countries that other people live in, and that we live in. My Mum is Australian but I was born in New Zealand. So I am half Australian and half New Zealand. We made damper bread for Australia. Then I wore black because I am half New Zealand and half Australian.
Cultural Day By Julianne
Today is cultural day. I am wearing black leggings because I was born in New Zealand. I am also wearing a red vest for Malaysia, with a bright, white top. For the food I am bringing Spring Rolls and Samosas. We are going to have a special shared lunch together. At 11.30 we have an exciting parade to look forward to. Some people painted NZ on their cheek for example Shelby. A lot of people wore their National Costumes. People are mostly bringing homemade yummy food. It is going to be great.
Cultural Day Langkee
Today we are having a very special for Pinehill School. It is called...Cultural Day. It is a day when we celebrate all the different cultures from Pinehill School. I wore traditional clothes from Korea, Tae Kwon Do uniform. I will bring roasted dumplings. It sounded super scrumptious when Tamihana said I am going to bring hundreds of pavlova. Still everyone's food looked yummy as well. At 11.30 we are going to have a parade and we will be able to see everyone's costume. I was very surprised his Grandmother sewed his whole Kung Fu uniform. Actually I was half New Zealand because I have a badge and it says NZ. Also there is a silver fern drawn on it. I beat we can have a great time!
Cultural Day Justin
Yay! Today is Cultural Day. I wore Korean traditional costume. I'm excited for the parade too. I think it will be really cool. We are going to have a shared lunch. I forgot what my Mum is going to bring for the shared lunch but it is going to be yummy. Lots of people wore Korean traditional costumes like me. It is called a Hanbok. My hanbok was too small so I had to use someone elses. I hope the parade will be fun!

Today is cultural day and I wore my Big Five t-shirt. The Big Five are five South African animals that are the five strongest animals and are very popular in South Africa. The animals are the Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Cheetah and the Elephant. My t-shirt also has the footprints on it. I had a flag and took the pole off it and put it on a headband. I have to put my head back to put it on. My pants are black for one of the flag colours and my shoes are white for the same reason. Maybe you have already worked out where I am from. But if you haven't, I am from South Africa. My Mum and Dad were from South Africa but me and my sister are from New Zealand. Next year I am going to South Africa to the safari park, and I am looking forward to it.
Cultural Day By Tamihana
I am a New Zealander. My face is painted black and white. I am wearing black because I am a New Zealander. I brought a banana cake for the shared lunch. I like banana cake. It has a little banana in the middle. I am performing in the Kapa Haka group today after the parade.
Cultural Day By Charlie
Today it is cultural day. I dressed up as a South African person. I wore a jaguar top and a jaguar skirt. I brought Koeksisters for our shared lunch. They are really sweet but they are really yummy. At 11.30 we are having the cultural day parade, and the Kapa Haka people are performing. Then we have a shared lunch. We will then have a normal day. I am looking forward to the parade.

Today its Cultural Day. Its a day when everyone has to wear their national costume and today for morning tea we are going to have chocolate cake. Its going to be delicious. I thought we had to have morning tea. But we didn't have to. Some of the kids Mums put in extra food so they won't be hungry. Mum knew I wouldn't be hungry. I am wearing a green t-shirt and black shorts. My whole family is from Iran but I was born in New Zealand, but I am still from Iran because my family are from Iran. It is the greatest country in the world because it is my country. At 11.30am we are going to have a parade and the Kapa Haka people are going to perform because that is special.

Today is cultural day and I am wearing an English t-shirt and a dark blue skirt, with white leggings. I was born in England too, just like my Mum and Dad. Culture Day is a day where people dress up as different countries or your own country if you want to. But you have to bring some food for Cultural Day. I brought some Chew-its and some cucumber sandwiches.
Cultural Day By Ryan
Today it is a very special day. It is cultural day. Today the Kapa Haka people are performing in a special parade. At lunch time we are going to share some food from our country. Yay! I am going to bring Korean vegie noodles. Yum! I know its going to be a wonderful day. I am so going to be excited. It is going to be a very very perfect day! Oh and I nearly forgot to tell you I am wearing Korean National Clothes. And one last thing, goodbye!
Cultural Day By Corrina-Anne
Today it is cultural day. I am dressed up in a lava-lava, shorts and a white t-shirt. I'm dressed in a Samoan Costume. We wear a white top because it would be too hot to wear a different colour in Samoa. My Dad and I have one. My Dad has a light blue one. I am wearing a red one. Did you know if you are single then you wear a single flower on your right, and if you are married you wear a flower on the left hand side because if you are married you wear a ring on the left hand side. We will be having a big parade around the school. I can't wait!
Cultural Day by Albert
Today it is cultural day and I wore a Chinese costume and a New Zealand costume. I brought a panda because there are only pandas in China. The Chinese is egg and tomato. Egg stands for yellow because in real life egg is yellow. Tomato stands for red because in real life tomato is red. Today we are going to.... Parade around the school! We are going to have our normal morning tea and have a shared lunch.

Trip to the Zoo
Wow what a great day we had at the zoo today! The children were really awesome and learnt a lot about the animals and the enclosures. We got to touch lots of animal skins in the education room and found out all about the toys that the animals have to keep them busy, and to encourage behaviour they see in the wild. Everyone fed the giraffe, it was so amazing seeing his long tongue! Check out our photos to see what else we got up to!

Speeches
We have been working very hard writing speeches in Room 6. We have been learning to write an information report, and add some of our own experiences as well. We need to learn our speech and perform it with good expression, eye contact, and confidence. A few natural gestures are ok, without going over the top! Good luck with all the speech practice, we will be having class finals next week!

What's on this term...
Well we are half way through the term and well into all of our activities. Cross country was a huge success, and I was very proud of all the children. Swimming has been going really well and it is amazing to see how much progress everyone makes in a short space of time. Check out our great swimming photos on the blog. The children are enjoying the production and electives that we are doing on Thursday afternoons.
Keep up the great work everyone!

Tennis by AY
We have been learning tennis this year, it was so fun there was a game called chief zombie. It was fun because if the people catch the ball we are a zombie, if they didn’t we are not a zombie. A.M. was not in the game because he had a broken leg but he still got a certificate. I wanted to join the tennis team but mum didn’t let me. It didn’t matter because I learn tennis at home.

Making Circuits
Today we made a circuit. We did it in groups. My group had three people. We made our fan work just by using two connectors, batteries, a battery holder and the fan. We made our siren work and kind of the speaker. We had to change the filament.

Making Circuits
Today our whole class made circuits. We had to make the fan go. We put batteries in the battery holders, and made circuits with batteries, wires and a siren. We used a fan and a siren. We made the fan spin around. We had to make sure it was all connected. If it wasn't nothing would have happened. Some groups made the lightbulbs go. We had to go and make the lightbulb, the fan or the siren go. If we had a problem we had to change the lightbulb, and check the batteries were the right way round.

Term Two!
Welcome back to term two, we are really looking forward to another exciting term. We are learning about Circuits and lighthouses and towards the end of the term we will be designing our own light houses. This week we are finding out about Anzac Day, and have read a story about a donkey and a man that saved people during the first world war. See if you can hunt down any interesting information about Lighthouses, and some pictures too. We look forward to sharing lots of exciting learning over the term!

Road Safety Show
Wow what an exciting time we have had in Room 6 lately. Today Ronald McDonald came and did a show about Road Safety. He was very funny, and told a story about his lost sock. He taught us about Sneaky Driveways and Make it Click. He taught us to stop, look and listen before you cross the road. It turned out his lost sock was on his back all along!

Trip to Rothesay Bay
We had a brilliant time at Rothesay Bay Beach! The children were wonderful and we had lots of great adventures. Some of the highlights included Sandcastle making, swimming in the slightly cool water, and making flax flowers. Thank you to those people who were able to come along and help, we could not have done this without you! Photos to follow shortly. Could any parents who were at the trip please email me their photos. Thanks so much!

James K Baxter Poems
In Room 6 we have written a poem like James K Baxter. We did a few mistakes and a few different things. We made some changes. We are publishing. They are really great and we tried our best.
James K Baxter's Poem
Today our class published James K Baxter poems. We wrote it a little bit different, in our own way. I wrote about Korea. I liked it because it was interesting. My favourite part was when I wrote 'Frogs sleeping in the frozen river.'

Our New Fish, By Helana
Our new fish is pretty. He is good at playing chase with Shiny. He is handsome. He has a big tail. He is long and thin. He is a Bronze Shubunkin. He loves Shiny. I want to call it Shark Attack. He has little eyes. He looked happy. I think he is very cute!
Our New Fish, By Jeffrey
We have a new fish in our class, a silver and bronze one. I think it should be called Cutey and the orange one is called Shiny. They wag their tails to go fast and sometimes they can chase each other, but they are small. They have different coloured skin. Sometimes they play together.
Our New Fish, By Gizelle
In the weekend Mrs Hook got us a new fish. We have to think of a name that's interesting, I thought maybe Glimmer, Brownie or Silver. He is a Bronze Shubunkin. I think he is cute, beautiful, interesting, great to have in our class, and smiley. He is silver, brown and white. To me I think he is a bit of a show off. I think he likes his new friend. Shiny is very pleased to have a friend but I think he is a bit angry because we look at our new fish more and Shiny thinks he is left out. I think they play tag. I love our new fish.
Our New Fish, By Tamihana
In the weekend Mrs Hook got a new fish. It is a Bronze Shubunkin. I think a good name would be Speedy.
Awesome effort at Assembly!
I have had lots of amazing feedback about how well you all did at assembly. Congratulations on your awesome acting! You all made a big effort with costumes and were so enthusiastic about performing. If any of your parents took great photos I would love to see them so that I can add them to our blog for everyone to see. Please email them to me!

Welcome to 2012
Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a lovely break with your families. We tried to make the most of the yucky weather over the holidays even if it meant going out and about in the rain! I had a lovely time in Tutukaka with my family, where we went swimming, fishing and exploring. What did you get up to in the holidays? What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
I am looking forward to a great year this year, with our Beach Trip this term, and all of us getting to know each other better. Our class pet Shiny has been a bit lonely over the holidays so is looking forward to meeting you all!
